Triglav National Park, nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps, is a tranquil paradise full of mesmerising scenery at every turn. With a long stretch of 880 square kilometres in Slovenia’s northern-western area, you’ll be treated to some of the country’s most stunning natural wonders.

It is by far one of the most beautiful areas I’ve ever visited. I was lucky to stop off during my trip around the Bled area.

I was in awe of the abundance of stunning lakes, glistening waterfalls, winding gorges, and hikes that lasted for hours and left me tired but intensely satisfied with what I saw along the way. And that leaves us with one burning question but an obvious answer.

Is Triglav National Park worth visiting?

Yes, 100%. Triglav National Park has many fun adventure days with so much natural beauty. It is a perfect, serene escape from the bustling city of Ljubljana or the touristy area of Lake Bled.

But where should you go? Let’s dive into the most beautiful places to visit in Triglav National Park.

Most beautiful places in Triglav National Park

I will now explore the most beautiful places to visit in Triglav National Park, along with recommendations and tips for your visit. With so many places to choose from, it was very hard to narrow it down!

1. Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Slovenia

Its long, pristine waters make it perfect for a fun, relaxing day out or for those looking to participate in water activities, including fishing and boating.

If you want adventure by foot, there are many scenic hikes in the vicinity, with restaurants and cafes on site, to grab a bite or a drink while getting some of the most picturesque views of the lake, with the mountainous surroundings of the Julian Alps.

While at Lake Bohinj, you’ll come across one of its most famous monuments, the ‘Church of St. John the Baptist‘, which has some of the finest medieval architecture in Slovenia. Tickets for the bell tower or church cost €3. A combined ticket is €5,

You’ll get one of the best lake views here!

With Lake Bohinj only a quick bus journey from Lake Bled, it has always been its counterpart, where tourists include both on their travel itinerary. I was lucky enough to stop off by both places, with Bohinj, I must say, being a much calmer and less touristy lake to visit.

As you walk across the 1.6 km-long wooden boardwalks, you’ll be treated to some of the finest cascading waterfalls and long winding rapids that will surely tickle the senses.

It will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk around at a leisurely place, but I’m sure once you start, that’ll soon be extended. There are many photo opportunities at every turn!

At the end, there is also a wooden hut that sells beverages if you fancy a stop-off. It’s next to a picturesque waterfall. Grab a drink and end off your thrilling time at Vintgar Gorge in style.

Dont worry. Once you reach it, that hard graft will soon be forgotten. It is truly stunning!

Top tip: The best time to visit it is early summer/late spring. This is where it is at its most picturesque, where the increased volume of water from the melted snow on the Julian Alps cascades down the rocks.

Where to stay in Triglav National Park

The best place to stay when visiting the Triglav National Park would be Bled. Although it’s just outside, it offers various accommodations for all budgets, with quick transport in and out of the national park.

It also gives you more freedom to choose whether you want to explore Bled for a day or continue your adventures in other Slovenian locations.

Bovec is also a brilliant place to stay and offers cheaper accommodation options. However, compared to Bled, its main downside is its limited connections to other parts of Slovenia.
